I'm looking for a perfect chocolate chip cookie. I always use the recipe off of the Nestle bag of chips and my cookies turn out flat - tasty, but flat. I like a cake-ier cookie. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Butter will give you a thin cookie while shorting will give you a thicker one. If you go to Teaching Segments and click on Cookie Tips you'll find a lot of helpful tips.

Judith, this is timely because today I made Quaker's Vanishing Oatmeal Cookies. As with Nestle's Chocolate Chip Cookies, I use all butter but chill the dough several hours (and usually overnight) before baking. That will help keep them from getting too thin while still giving you the flavor of all butter. I make balls out of the chilled dough and put them on the cookie sheets. You can also make a log out of the dough and chill it for slicing. Just make sure the dough is COLD when it goes in the oven. It works very well with drop cookies that you want to bake up thicker.

Melinda may have this in Teaching Segments. Using those insulated cookie sheets can often make cookies spread and become thinner. One reason is they take longer to heat which encourages the spreading. Heavy-gauge, shiny aluminum cookie sheets seem to work the best for me.

I definitely agree with champagne on the chilling the dough method

Guts, chilling really does the trick. I've also found the cookies may need to bake a little longer. Wish I could post a photo of the oatmeal cookies I made. I'm still clueless why I have trouble posting photos here. I've tried a couple times and they're still huge even after sizing them down.

If you email yourself a photo, it will ask what size do you want to send. Choose the smallest size, then click and drag the photo to your desktop. Cancel the mail and I think it may work for getting the smaller size onto the site. It works for me.

I don't have any food pics but here is a whacky photo of one of my favorite actors. I was trying a screen capture software.

Here is another pic of an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous man I had a crush on in high school. I had a reality check the other day when I realized he is now 77 years old. YIKES! Getting old is not fair.

good job bugs I don't understand why some people have problems posting pictures but I'm not familiar with Mac machines either. Maybe they are using a Mac? I sure would love to see some of the foods that they create for dinner and desserts, wouldn't you. I tried to start a thread. What's for dinner with pictures but it didn't take off too well only if it was posted pictures which is not necessary to post a picture all the time. Sometimes you just don't have time to take a picture when everybody sits down the. But I really enjoy looking at what everyone else is eating do you?

bugster, Guts posted the same instructions recently. I tried it and it didn't work...I kept getting an error message after choosing the size. I was able to post one picture here after resizing it in photobucket. However, the next one didn't work. I'm not sure why this site is a problem for me with photos. BTW, those are great pics!

Guts, I just pm'd you back...thanks!
