Melinda and Maria give high praises to this stuff. I was just curuious if anyone else has tried it and what they think. Even the little 6-oz. starter set is $55.

Oh, champagne . . . surely you jest. $55.00 for a 6 oz. starter kit?

For that kind of money, it should also give me the ability to sing and dance, neither of which I can currently do.

Gloria, sing and dance is right! Their "regular" size 3-piece set is $96.49...so maybe sing, dance and dinner with George Clooney.

As per Wikipedia:

" . . . The hair that is visible is the hair shaft, which exhibits no biochemical activity and is considered "dead"."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair

I've never understood why women spend so much money on shampoo. I either buy Suave (my favorite) or VO 5 (not my favorite, but frequently goes on sale for 69¢ to 79¢ a bottle).

Except for setting your hair on fire, or pouring a harsh chemical on it, there really isn't much you can do to damage it, as it's already dead. :(

I tried the products several months before Melinda began advertising it.

I have always had very fine hair and it had begun thinning significantly after I stopped taking hormone replacement meds that I had taken since a radical hysterctomy when I was 29.
My doctor first prescribed minoxidil and I continued using it after it was OTC, however I got tired of the morning and night applications and wanted something easier.
About a year before purchasing the Ovation products I stopped having periodic perms and began letting my hair grow.

I used the Ovation products exactly as directed for three months and did not notice any thickening of my hair and no more sheen or appearance than I get with other premium shampoos.
In fact, I noticed that I seemed to be losing my hair - there was more than usual in my hairbrush each time I brushed.

I did not repurchase the products and have gone back to using minoxidil and my hair is again getting thicker, there is a lot of new growth during the past 4-5 months.

It may work for some but did not work for me and it was, in my opinion, much too costly.

Here's a site with many opinions: http://laser.hairgrowthcenters.com/bid/ ... s-Reviewed

When I wrote my reply above, I did not realize this product was for hair growth . . . my bad. :( However, I can tell you that Minoxidil (Rogaine) is the only product on the market that does encourage hair growth. As for all the other products that promise you great things, they are as good as what the traveling snake oil salesman sold.

Andie, I really appreciate your comments. I don't need help with hair growth, so I'll just stick with my current hair products. I guess I was under the impression the Ovation products were supposed to be good for anyone...one of the reasons I was so startled by the prices.

I have very thin, fine hair and have found that nothing improves my situation. If the product actually worked, they wouldn't be able to keep it on the shelves. I buy Suave and it works just fine.

I saw my dermatologist yesterday and asked her about the Ovation products.
She said there was really no scientific proof that anything in the contents would have any significant effect on hair.
She also said that it was vastly overpriced.

She said that nutrition is most important and for people who have thinning hair from age and medical conditions, nothing will work, except minoxidil or the new laser therapy.
She showed me some photos of some of her patients who have had significant regrowth with the laser treatment but said that my hair is doing nicely and she doesn't recommend it for me.

I have a lot of hair but the texture is somewhat fine. I have noticed differences with various products. I was using Pantene's Clarifying Shampoo once a week and really liked it. It made a big difference in the hair texture no matter what shampoo I followed with (usually Pantene or Paul Mitchell). However, Pantene stopped making that stuff...sure wish I'd stocked up. I've tried other 'clarifyers' without the same results.

I guess I am weird and I have to confess that I am somewhat of a maverick when it comes to shampoo. I actually use a premium dog shampoo that can only be purchased from specialty shops or at dog shows. I've been using this for many years.
There is no perfume in this shampoo - something to which I have had allergic reactions in the past.

From time to time I have tried regular (and expensive) shampoos but keep going back to this one.

If you think this is odd, let me explain that dog shampoos have to be much milder and gentler than those for humans because dogs get it all over their bodies and can absorb some chemicals through the skin.

My hair is gray so I use one specifically for white dogs - and if you see a white show dog, you understand why.
The shampoo I use is purple and really makes my hair shine. It feels buttery between my fingers but rinses out easily with no residual residue in my hair.

P.S. I also use it on my Basenji.

What works for me...

I have fine, thin hair.

Every morning I brush 50 strokes, so I know how much hair I lose. Since I started using this product, I'm losing a LOT less hair.

It's Hair Revitalizing Formula from Swanson Vitamins, it is made in Norway. (SWU429 - $17.99)

You are supposed to take 2 tablets a day. I started out taking two tablets, but now I usually end-up just taking one tablet a day.

Unfortunately, they are currently out-of-stock.

It sure works for me!
