If you find the thought of raw oysters abhorent to you, read no further.

Brophy Bros., is a local seafood place at the harbor. I rarely go, because it is often crowded and noisy. Great view of the harbor, great food; great oyster shooters. I may never do these at home myself, and I recognize there may be limited interest; but I had the good fortune in this mornings paper to have their recipe. As many of you may have oysters in the house this holiday season, here we go:

BROPHY'S OYSTER SHOOTER

in a tall shot glass
Dash of lemon juice
1 Blue Point oyster
dollop of horseradish paste
splash of Tabasco
1/2 tsp cocktail sauce
dash of parmesean (shredded not powdered)
1/2 oz Absout Peppar (whatever vodka you have should work I think)
Assemble in shot glass in the above order. Do not mix.

To enjoy, I like to sip, then gulp, rather than down it in one fell swoop.

Maynard, you're killing me here. Raw oysters are the only food that make me salivate when I think of them. Oh, how I love them. I was late discovering them. I thought they looked gross and disgusting. Some friends of mine were having them at dinner and enjoying them so much that I finally relented and tried one. I was hooked. I'll definitely try your shooters. Thanks.

Someone mentioned lobster on Melinda's show. Now I'm dying for oysters and lobster. Oh my! :D

I've read that Maine lobster is selling for 2.99 per lb. (cheaper than some hamburger) People in the business report prices that have not been seen in 20 years. Fishermen are only getting 2.00 lb for their catch. When you factor in the cost of fuel, you know they are hurting. Can't sell to Canada, can't sell to cruise ships, restaurants etc., because of the economy. No luck for those of us on the left coast. We use west coast spiny lobsters.

I think I recommended The oyster bar at the Brooklyn Restaurant to you,in Seattle. Great sampler tray of many of the varieties available in puget sound. Now,I gather that you don't care for oysters. Sorry; I have a bad habit of assuming all peoples tastes are similiar to my own. This assumption is due to two years in the Army, and 32 years in the Fire Dept. Anything above mac & cheese with weenies cut up in it; was considered a delicacy.

OMG, Maynard, my husband is from Haverhill, MA, just north of Boston. I wish we were with his family. We would go to the beach and get 1 to 1 1/2 pound lobsters, take them home with fresh corn from the local farm, steam some clams and have a down home feast. I hate cooked clams. but the lobster is to die for. I would be in heaven.

Reminds me of a colorful incident at Half Moon Bay, west of Oakland, a few years ago. A new lady in my life was visiting and we went to the beach. Running up and down the shore we found ourselves at a beach front eatery. She did not want anything but a glass of wine. I ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell to fortify my libido. She was polite. I returned from the restroom, while they were served, and she had left me with one oyster! To this day I do not know if she simply liked oysters ao if she was really just tired.
