I was playing on Google while listening to Melinda and found this
discussion re sour cherries. Don't know if the seeker will find it helpful but I thought it was fun to read.

I never see fresh or frozen sour cherries in a mkt. We were going thru St George, UT some years ago and there were frozen cherries in 5# containers. I did not have a way to bring them back home since we were going eastward. Many years ago we used to pick sour and sweet cherries at Cherry Pie Farm in Saugus. Oh the "good old days"!! I am originally from Michigan where we had cherry trees and cherry festivals every year ..... that was the "GOD" too!Canned sour cherries are just not the same.

Are sour cherries the same as what we call pie cherries here in Washington? I have been looking for fresh pie cherries all summer and none of the markets carry them any longer. I guess they are just too perishable.

Rats.... LOL.... I need my pie cherry fix! Thanks for the memories, though.

[size=150]Sour cherrys are sour, you can get them in various forms in Middle Eastern markets. I shop a lot at Ranch Market in Van Nuys. it's on Supelvida Blvd just south of Sherman Way, right opposite a Jons Market. There is also another on Vanowen just east of Reseda Blvd, I think the name is Valley Produce Market. I love these markets, they have unusual things there, it's fun to look around the prices you can't beat anywhere..[size=150]

I've found fresh sour cherries and fresh almonds at Golden Farms on San Fernando Rd. in Burbank/Glendale. Their produce is good, and it's cheapcheapcheap. Problem is, the sour cherries get snapped up pretty quickly.

I know both of those places. Valley Ranch is just around from the corner where I worked. The other one is Valley Produce on VanOwen. It's just east of Reseda Blvd and across the street from Ralphs. It's also fun to people watch there. So many different languages are being spoken.
