What happened to Surfas? Everytime I click on their site I get redirected to some culinary site in Arkansas. Are they not in business anymore?

It looks like they were sold to something called Culinary District. I went to www.surfasonline.com and found this statement...

Culinarydistrict.com will be offering all of the many items sold at Surfas Restaurant Supply and Gourmet Food in Culver City,California. For the numerous loyal customers who have been FOS (fans of Surfas) at www.surfasonline.com you will find the same indispensible top quality items you have relied on from Surfas now at www.culinarydistrict.com but in addition you will be amazed at new presentations of these products and the vast variety of new products we have in every section of www.culinarydistrict.com you have not seen before.

I contacted Melinda and she called the store. This is what she found out.

"I called over there and found out that they now sell Surfas products through a website called "CulinaryDistrict.com" - when you click on the Surfas.com link from the Resource Guide at my website, it will re-direct you automatically to this site. The post from Champagne (lower listed) is absolutely correct - but I'm not sure whether that statement she found is still viewable.

At the new site, they sell Surfas products - and also others - so there is an even broader selection. To get the store's in-house website (from which they no longer sell anything, but which has store hours and a calendar of events, etc) you can click on SurfasLosAngeles.com...The store has not been sold - and is still there at the same location."

I worked for the Surfas family for 3 years from 1997 through 2000. Les and Diane are great folks and I dearly loved my job as the food buyer for perishables. (Fois Gras, Imported Cheeses, Caviar, cold Smoked Salmon -- anything that needed to be kept under refrigeration or frozen).

The owners have family ties in Arkansas. I haven't been in contact with Les and Diane Surfas for years (gosh, I miss them!) but I would assume they are "somewhat" getting ready to retire. Les' father, began the business (restaurant supply) a zillion years ago. Somewhere in the 1990s they began to sell gourmet foods and they just blossomed from there. I haven't been to the new location, across the street from the original store, but I hear it is awesome.

If you haven't been to Surfas in Culver City, I urge to you visit! You will save a lot of money and have a lot of fun at the same time.
