I heard a caller during the "Hot Dog" show a few weeks ago asking where to find hot dogs with casing -- the kind that have a flavorful 'snap' and burst of juiciness. I know where to get them!

Look at Ralphs stores, for "Ralphs Private Selection Old Fashioned Franks." The come in packages of 5 (and of course, buns come in packages of 8.) These are the real deal, and as listed on the label "made with an old world casing." These are absolutely wonderful, and aisde from the Farmer John Dodger Dogs (available at LA area Vons) these are my favorite dog. Beware, not all Ralphs have them, and of those that do, they're not always on the shelf, so ask in the store if you don't see them.

By the way, I loved Melinda's history lesson on the orgin of the hot dog, and especially learning that they are in fact name/shape inspired by the Dachshund, one of my favorite "real dogs."
