Happy New Year everyone!

Well, I've started Weight Watchers (again) and am trying to eat more fish. I love salmon and thought that would be great, but it's a fatty fish and has lots of "points". Tiliapia, on the other hand, is a low "point" value fish. I tried it tonight for the first time and can't say I'm too happy. I baked it with a very light breading. It was moist enough, but oh-too-fishy tasting.

Any suggestions on how I may prepare this fish in a way that's WW friendly?

Thanks in advance for your help. :D

Why don't you try cooking cod. You can buy it frozen and keep it in your freezer. It has no fishy taste and stands up to almost any kind of cooking. We're not "fishy" fish lovers and cod is fantastic.

Tilapia is a very boring without a sauce, in my opinion, and that won't work with weight watchers ...

Sorry that I don't know much about WW, but might it be possible to create a sauce from nonfat half and half with combinations of seasonings like garlic, ginger, wasabi, lemon, dill, taragon, soy, worchestershire sauce, pomegranate molasses, balsamic, etc.?

Something else that just popped into my head - make a thin sauce out of some sort of legumes (immersion blender?) - mashed cooked lentils, garbanzos, cannellis - and add seasonings. If it's thin, and you're only using a couple of tablespoons, would the carbs be too high?

I'm surprised that your Tilapia had such a fishy taste. It's supposed to be the most bland, boring fish there is. Why don't you Google, "How to cook Tilapia" (no quotes)? I found quite a few different suggestions on how to cook it.

at Costco the other day they were sampling tortilla crusted tilapia, I thought it was quite tasty and I think I'll pick up some next time I go to Costco. As anyone else tried it from Costco?

BTW Gloria like your avatar of the black lab is at your dog?

Wish it were. It is my son's dog. His name is Bonser. He was named (I think) after a baseball player in Minnesota. My son and family live in Minneapolis. Bonser was a rescue dog. He is the most kind, gentlest dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Actually, my husband and I feel he is the best family member we have! :D Thanks for asking.

I think you might have had some aged tilapia.
Try Trader Joe's frozen tilapia - I've never been disappointed with any of their frozen fish.

Have you thought about letting herbs compliment the fish instead of breading?

When you go to bake it it, non-stick your pan, and then very lightly drizzle it with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
Let 'er go for 20 min.
While it's cooking, combine in a little saucepan: 1 T. each olive oil and butter substitute (Smart Balance works), and sauté a clove of chopped garlic in it. Take it off the heat when the garlic looks limp. Add to that ¼ tsp. each dried marjoram, basil, oregano, thyme, and savory (if you have it on hand). Finish it with ½ tsp. ground coriander and a tablespoon of lemon juice. The herbs will "bloom" in the oil and lemon juice off the heat while the fish bakes. Drizzle that over the fish when you plate it. :D

Personally, I can't bring myself to eat tilapia. We used to use tilapia for bait to catch corvina.
I do like cod.

I also love the tortilla crusted tilapia, but with the breading would not be on her WW menu. I have bought (from Costco) the individually packaged tilapia loins. They are packaged like chicken breasts. I take out how many I need per person, and put it in a baking dish. I open a can of diced tomatoes and pour it on. Maybe squeeze half a lemon, basil, or dry italian seasonings, cover and bake for about 13 minutes at 350. Very good and moist. And not fishy at all.

I've been eating a lot of tilapia lately. First of all, I buy it frozen, in IQF (Indivudually Quick Frozen) packets. It's flash frozen as soon as it's processed and doesn't have time to get fishy.

Before frying, I dust it with a mixture of garlic powder, salt, and garam masala. Quite good.
