An Introduction
MelindaLee.com is a website encompassing several different types of interrelated information.
First, there’s Food News with Melinda Lee – a radio program broadcast every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until Noon, on KNX 1070 Newsradio (AM). More than anything other single thing, this web site supports the conversations and information offered on that show. Topics range over virtually any subject related to food, cooking, kitchen equipment, health and safety issues, history and folklore, entertaining and the like. Listeners are invited call in to the live broadcast with their questions on any topic (there is a substantial emphasis on problem-solving and why-that-works-the-way-it-does). From this web site, you can “listen live” to the broadcast (see our Home page), read the introduction each week on the “This Week’s Show” page, describing what is planned for the broadcast, and see the featured recipes that are posted to support the show topics.
There is a Recipe Archive containing hundreds and hundreds of recipes from past shows. You can access these recipes by category (there’s a list of categories to surf) or by using the “Search This Site” button at the top right of the home page. With that button you can search the entire site, including all the recipes, by an ingredient or by subject matter.
Also on this web site, you will find Let’s Talk, an “interactive” forum where listeners and site visitors exchange information and ideas, a Resource Guide which provides a wide-ranging listing of resources for foods and equipment, ingredients and other items for cooks, as well as the Emergency Preparedness Guide (which is the last item listed in the Resource Guide category list). You will also find Teaching Segments and Basic References of all kinds.
Under the “About Us” heading on the navigation bar at the top of the home page (where you found this), you’ll find the “Look at Us” page with behind-the-scenes pictures (soon to be updated and enlarged), and an alphabetical listing of show Sponsors. Also found here under “About Us” is the page for Melinda’s Store (where you may purchase custom-designed aprons and Melinda’s DVD (about cocktails and outfitting your bar at home) and a page for Our Music which is new each week for that week’s broadcast.
Some new things: Starting January 30, every weekday, Monday through Friday, Food News on Demand features air on KNX – at 9:27 a.m. and 4:51p.m.. Each 90-second feature, written and produced by Melinda, centers on a different topic (10 each week), related to the world of food. Five of these weekday features are selected by KNX to be re-broadcast over the following weekend. On the same page as the Food News on Demand features, you will soon find a link to the CBSLos Angeles website, where podcasts of the features will be posted, as well as “webisodes” – short videos on various topics – and eventually, perhaps a blog.
Another new item of note, is the upcoming launch of Melinda’s magazine, Whisk. Subscriptions are not yet available, but the page for the magazine (centered on the home page, under the “slide show” pictures) will soon give you many more details about it all.
